John Mayer w/ Mat Kearney

February 2007
Lexington , KY
posted by Stefanie

Last night my sister and I traveled to Rupp Arena to take in the John Mayer & Mat Kearney concert. I have to admit that I mainly purchased the tickets to see Mat Kearney (an up and coming singer/songwriter from Nashville) as I have never been a huge fan of John Mayer; until last night.

For those of you who want to leave the dwelling of your home and go to a concert where the soul focus is the music and not putting on a theatrical show full of pyrotechnics and costume changes I highly recommend checking the concert out.

The sound was rich and the instrumental accompaniments were top notch. The lyrics/music were soulful and honest. It was a concert where both guys stood at the mic picked on their guitars and sang their hearts out.

The media has labeled Mayer has one of The New Guitar Gods behind Hendrix, Vaughn etc. I wouldn't go that far but Mayer proved that he knows what he is doing on an electric guitar.

The soul and mild funk of the both performers truly showed that vintage R & B is still alive and thriving.

The audience demographic was very diverse; from the family scene with children probably as young as 8 years old, to the tween crowd, young adult lovers, on up to the baby boomer generation. It was a great concert! If you can't check it out but would like to see footage, I made a small home movie of the concert that you are more then welcome to view.

Sounds like a blast. Isn't Mayer dating Jessica Simpson?
