Vail Skiing

December 2006
Vail , CO
posted by Jailbreak Duane

I had to take a business trip to Denver, so I made a 3 day weekend of it and went skiing by myself in Vail. I stayed in the Lionshead Inn, what appeared to me to be the least expensive next to the lifts. It was a nice place.

The mountains were awesome and the snow was great. At the top of the mountain I did not want to come down because of the views. But when I did come down the slopes were long, wide, groomed and steep.

Having only skied two days prior to this, 3 years ago, I hit the training slope in the morning then stepped up to the green slopes (easiest) by mid-morning. My favorite was the Lost Boy.

The 2nd day was Saturday and the lines started stacking up quickly. So I ventured to the back side and stepped up to the Blue slopes. The back side included two long, easy trails, Cloud Nine and Sleepytime, that went on and on for probably ten minutes. It was the perfect way to enjoy the mountains.

The 3rd day my goal was to go over the whole mountain, front and back, east to west, with an emphasis on soaking in the beauty of the experience. I felt like this was a better goal than trying to improve my skills since I may never be able to take another ski trip.

This certainly tops my outdoor adventure experience list. I will be trying to remember every minute of it in my head for as long as I can.

Nice! I've been thinking of getting out to Vail lately. I have a friend there. Maybe this Summer or next Winter.
