Slickrock, Moab
April 2008
Moab , UT
posted by JmacTN
Slickrock is probably the most well know trail in the country. When you go to Moab to ride, it is a "right of passage". So, we had to have our righ tof passage.
Slickrock is about 6 miles outside of Moab and most of that distance is uphill. Since we were all tuckered out from the ride a couple of hours before (Amasaback)we decided to get a shuttle ride up.
Looking at the trail head map, we decided to ride the "preferred direction". We soon found out that the preferred direction was the hard way. The climbs were plentiful and steep. But the exposed sandstone provided excellent traction and the steepest climbs were possible if you had it in the legs. The trail is a 12 mile loop and is a rollercoaster ride with many steep climbs and kicka** down hills. There were a couple of technical sections that required you to hike a bike, but most of it was ridable.
This trail is a must do if you are ever in Moab. It will not dissapoint you.
