Econfina Creek

March 2008
Panama City , FL
posted by KayakMom

It was an awesome Spring day, the temp was in the mid 70s and sunny. We put in at SR 20. We got out at road 388. The trip took us about about 3 hours. We didn't paddle hard, I had kids with me. We stopped for a few pictures and to stretch our legs for a few minutes, and we did travel up a few streams off the main channel.
There is apparently a canoe rental place a mile or two upriver from SR 20. As we weren't renting canoes, we didn't feel they would be too friendly to us using their put in spot.
I wish we could've, because there are apparently some beautiful springs on that stretch of river.
It was amazing, the river had a orangeish/brown hue- but was still very clear! but then there were several fresh water springs feeding into the river and they were CRYSTAL clear blueish-green water! It was really awesome.
If you are in the Panama City area I would urge you to take the extra time to go about 45 minutes (to an hour with traffic) out of town and paddle this river-
a very unique experience!
