Timberline

February 2008
WV
posted by abenson

The wife and I were invited to go along on a ski/snowboard annual event this year. I am lucky that my wife's best friend is getting married to a snowboarder, firefighter, skier, because she has dated some real losers (which I get stuck hanging out with).

Anyway, Timberline is about an hour away from Snowshoe. There are actually a few smaller resorts around the Snowshoe area that I have never been to, so we gave it a try. One reason this group goes to Timberline is the accomodations. Snowshoe is really the place to go, but for the price of a weekend there, you might as well go out west. We stayed in a lodge style house with a lot of bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, open kitchen and living room, and most importantly, a hot tub. We bought a ton of groceries, slpit the house, gas, and of course booze and it came out to about $400 a couple for the weekend.

The only bad thing there is they only have 35 slopes, which were not all open due to a lack of snow and a very poor terrain park. They have a decent website if anyone is interested www.timberlineresort.com. Sorry for the lack of photos, I never seem to think about stopping to take photos when I am dodging skiers and trees.

You know, one of the reasons I like writing trip reports is getting the comments. I think I should write some more....Ididn't mention the house was on the slope, so we could stash beer out in the snow and cruise in every other run and slam a beer. Also, there was a pretty good little lodge bar at the bottom of the slope. I have more pictures, one of which has one of the guys we were with playing leg guitar to the live music, good times.

You better be ready to put away that much beer in Moab. I am sure it is going to taste good after a day of riding Arches.

As far as the temp. it was actually cloudy and cold around 25 most of the weekend, then on Sunday as we were leaving the skies were blue and it was around 40. As far as the beer, even a beer snob like me can't justify good beer when putting away nearly a case a day.

Picture 1 - What was the temperature. For some reason it looks mild to me.

Picture 2 - Miller Lite? C'mon, where's the good beer at? I can't blame you though, the affordability factor probably allowed you to eat better and ski more. :)
