Kayak Alaska (Planning Stage) delayed 1 year

July 2008
Seward , AK
posted by Kayaker

This is a future trip that is comming together, so I'm looking for any input...

At Christmas I mentioned to my dad that I wanted to kayak the glaciers in Alaska. He said that he was interested in it too. My mom said that they had friends in Anchorage and contacted them. They both were interested too. Then my mom signed on. So what started out as a solo trip for myself has snowballed into something else entirely.

I've made the reservations with KayakAK for a 3 day sail and paddle in Aialik bay. I have reservations for a cabin in Seward the night before and the night after the sail.

The cabin is near exit glacier, so I am thinking to do a day hike there.

What else would you recomend in and around Seward and Anchorage?

Update: Thanks for all the input, but the US Air Force has decided that I am needed in Kuwait this summer. KayakAK gratiously let me apply my deposit to a trip next summer. Dreams of kayaks & glaciers are getting me through the 114 degree days here in Kuwait.

Hey, this is coming up on ya. Before you know it you'll be there! It really does sound like a cool trip. Good luck with all the planning.

If you hike up to Ft. Mcgilvary, thats pretty wild. You get an awesome view of Resurrection Bay, the surrounding mountains, and, well, everything. Plus its an interesting piece of history to see. Just hike the western coast of the bay. Get a tide chart. Let me know if you'd like more info.

JoshuatheNomad will be your man for his one. He guided up there this summer!

I like the "future trip report" idea. Great way to get advice!
