Joshua Tree National Park, CA
January 2008
Joshua Tree , CA

I always thought Denali would be my all time favorite trip, (I should probably type that report, too) but not anymore. JTNP owns.
-I flew out to LA Wednesday the 9th and drove up to Bakersfield and turned south towards the desert. (I was originally going to go to Yosemite, but a friend's advice had me go where it was warmer).
-I stayed from the 10th to the 15th, spent the first few days hiking. Recommended hikes would be Ryan Mountain 1.5 mile to the loop, the Lost Horse Mine loop 6.5 mile, Keys Ranch tour, followed by the Barker dam.
-The last three days I spent bouldering. I forgot how much I loved climbing around on stuff. I went to Nomad Ventures (Park Boulevard and Twentynine Palms Highway) and got my very own shoes and chalk bag (tired of borrowing my friend's stuff anyway). VERY nice people there, a cute girl works there, too. OK, back on topic!
Recommeded climbing: Hidden valley, Hall of Horrors, Quail Springs, and the backside of Barker Dam. I had a lot of fun at this nature trail at the beginning of Keys Road, too. But dude, if you can find a rock, you can climb it. They're everywhere. Get a book on what to climb from the visitor center or at Nomad Ventures.
And by the way, it gets cold at night. Yea.
