White Water Rafting the Ocoee with OAC
October 2007
Copperhill , TN
posted by Emile
This weekend I put together a white water rafting trip for Living Hope Baptist Church. There were 18 of us total and we headed down to Copperhill, TN early Saturday morning. From Bowling Green, KY its about 4-5 hours with all the stops. Initially when this trip was coming together we really thought it would be pretty darn cold being the end of October and all. It turned out to be a beautiful day on the Ocoee.
The company we went with was the Ocoee Adventure Center (OAC) and they were absolutely wonderful. We got there a little early and they pointed us in the direction of some lunch. I also gave them some Outdoorzy stickers and a couple t-shirts. They were very appreciative and I had people asking me about Outdoorzy all day long...it was great.
We put in about 2:30 and the middle Ocoee was full that day. There were tons of other groups rafting, none of them having as much fun as our group from OAC, and a lot of kayakers. We had 3 rafts total and our guide in our raft was Rose. She has been guiding rafting tours for about 10 years she said. She was great.
It was a wonderful day to be outside and outdoorzy, the sun was out, the temperature probably in the 70s. We had fleeces on, but they weren't necessary. The water was cold, but it could have been much colder. The trip went by quickly and on this trip no one was thrown or flipped from the boat, which was nice.
I can't say enough about the great people at OAC. If you are planning on rafting the Ocoee they are the group to go with. They also offer kayaking, mountain biking, and trips to Costa Rica.
Thanks to everyone at OAC who made the trip a success for the group from Living Hope.
