Took a drive up the PCH in California this summer and visited a very amazing spot. JPB state park is home to an amazing waterfall that drops from a cliffside and spills onto the sand and into the Pacific Ocean.
There is a great nature trail that is no more than a mile long that takes you down to the waterfall. If you follow the trail from the parking area you will hike past a small building that was once a mill that generated electricity in the late 1800s and early 1900s. After looking at the mill you walk through a man-made tunnel that passes under the PCH. Then you can either go left or right. Going right takes you to the waterfall vista.
The view is amazing and the beach is beautiful. It looks just like a scene from a movie. There are some amazing photo ops on the main trail. There is often a fog over Big Sur but in the heat of the day it can burn off, so be patient to get that perfect shot.
After viewing the waterfall we hiked some other areas of the trail. When you go back to the tunnel you take the other trail and it winds around the hillside and above the waterfall which is a beautiful view of typical Big Sur coastline. There is also a reservation only camping area. This is definately worth checking into as it is perched near a 70-80 foot cliff over the waterfall and the Pacific. It's an easy stop from the PCH, just watch for it on the map. Also, there is a small fee when parking. It is self paying.
