Raven Run - to the river
July 2007
Lexington , KY
posted by Weems
This morning, I took a short hike through the Raven Run Nature Sanctuary in southern Fayette County, KY.
Beautiful weather and a nice walk in the woods--around a mile to the bluffs overhanging the Kentucky River and then back.
A sanctuary for both wildlife and human beings amidst the wild urban sprawl in Lexington, Raven Run is excellently maintained by the Lexington-Fayette County government. Despite fairly heavy use, the trails remain narrow and clean.
There's a lot of variety on the short trail--an overgrown stone fence built in the 1800s, lush forest undergrowth (moss everywhere), and the stone bluffs looking down on the river.
My only complaint this morning is that everyone on the trail with me seemed intent on speaking so they could be heard for 1/2 mile away. It wasn't very crowded, but, at times, you couldn't hear the natural sounds for the echoing conversations.
Nonetheless, it was nice to traipse through the woods this morning and the Kentucky River vista is a nice reward.
