300 Springs Green River Float 5-23
May 2007
Jonesville , KY

300 Springs Float 5-23-07 Green River above 31E bridge at Jonesville KY
My front paddler (my wife) and I ran this 7-8 mile trip today. It was great, did not see anyone on the water, except my front paddler. To get to this place: Take 31E north out of Glasgow, or south out of Hodgenville to Jonesville.
The take out point is about ½ mile down Glenn Lilly rd (go west off of 31E just north of the bridge over Green River). Greet take out spot, only you have to carry canoe up to the road (see picture)
Put in spot : Go east on Hwy 566 just south of Jonesville for about 2.7 miles--- just before you cross over Lynn Camp Creek (no bridge, just large culvert with guard rails on both sides of road) there is a gravel road that you have to make a 270 degree back turn to take it (it is on the right). If you get to Bennet Rd on the left you have went about 500 meters to far. The put in is a little tricky as you have to slide your canoe down a very steep bank and walk down another path.
WARNING do not leave valuables in plain sight at this location!!!!
The springs start appearing about ½ way thru the float and last about 200 meters or so. The whole trip is serene and peaceful. Run it thru May to early June, we did not have to portage at all today. Water is from 1’ to 14’ on this trip.
Smallies are pretty good on this trip.
Last year we followed an eagle for about 2 miles as she flew from tree to tree. No eagle today, but did see her nest, several deer, hawks, and owl, and 2 water moccasins. They are plentiful in this area of Green River.
