Big South Fork
May 2007
TN
posted by OxfordBob
Took long weekend. Went down on Friday. Got on the trail about 2:30 after a 6 hour drive from Ohio.
Went in at Bandy Creek campground on the John Litton Loop to Fall Creek trail. Camped at Fall Creek on Friday. Threatened rain but never did.
Hiked on up to top and to John Muir trail. It rained most of the day, off and on,but never bad. Rained about all of Saturday night.
We didn't backpack but about 8.5 miles but did some day hikes from our camps.
It's a great place. I have been there many times. Less people than about anyplace in the area.
For those who know about geocaching. I found a cache (GCW427) and left a travel bug (Sled Head) from British Columbia.
By all means go to Big South Fork if you get a chance. Great place for day hikes, backpacking, kayaking or anything done in the outdoors
