I bought this pack at the beginning of last December. It is a top-loading internal frame backpack. Of all the features with this particular pack, my favorite is the shoulder strap padding. This is without a doubt the most comfortable backpack I have ever used and is very snug on your back. There is none of that loose swaying that can throw you off balance. The padding on the back has an open channel going down the center to increase air circulation, but I'm not sure how effective that is. I still sweat. The North Face's website says it is recommended for long day hikes or overnight trips, but if you are a light packer like me, it has plenty of room for longer trips. I carried it on my trip to Grand Teton National Park and easily packed 5 days worth of gear and supplies in it. My only complaint is that I wish the top of it was connected with straps and buckles and not sewn on just above the shoulder straps. There is also a women's model, the Terra W40.
