This past summer I modified my kayak for fishing. I installed a fly rod holder in the front, installed nylon pad eyes, etc. Before I modified my kayak, I used to secure a milk crate in the rear molded in area in the back of the kayak. The milk crate was important. I had the fly rod holder attached to the side and I used an old soft sided cooler for to carry fly boxes, leaders, tippets, and other things.

Now that I modified kayak, I needed to find something new to carry the fly boxes, tippet, leaders, split shot, strike indicators, and etc. I started looking at dry bags and then boat bags. I finally decided on a boat bag; I purchased a Simms Dry Creek Boat Bag in Medium. At first I wasn’t sure about my purchase, but after loading it up and going on my first trip, I knew this was a good buy.

The boat bag is approximately 13” x 17” x 10”. From the internet, here are the highlights:
• Exterior features 420 denier, double coated polyurethane nylon
• Interior features 70 denier, single coated polyurethane nylon
• Foam body prevents heat from radiating up from the bottom of the boat into the bag
• Water resistant, non-corrosive zipper seals out spray
• Pockets include map or tippet pocket, side pockets, clear vinyl pocket on lid interior
• Velcro® interior divider can be configured to accommodate fly boxes
• Includes shoulder strap and carrier handle

This is great boat bag / gear bag. If you are in the market for a new dry gear bag, give the Simms Dry Creek Series Boat Bags a serious look. When ever I go fishing, this bag goes with me. I probably carry too much gear with me, but better to have it, than not to have it when you need it.
