The essentials for looking after your "plates of meat" on rough or extended excursions

Necessities
  1. Clean, dry socks.
  2. Nail clippers/scissors and file/emeryboard.
  3. Antibacterial soap/handwash.
  4. Friars balsam - a sticky yellow liquid which disinfects and toughens damaged or sensitive skin - great for "priming" before application of dressings (and can even be used as an inhalant to alleviate cold symptoms).
  5. Antibacterial talcum powder - eg Lanacane.
  6. Non-stick dressings - eg. Mipore/Melanin.
  7. Low tack dressing tape - eg Micropore - apply before application of anti-rub dressings.
  8. Zinc oxide tape - use as an anti-rub dressing on any "hot spots" to avoid blisters.
  9. Stretchy fabric dressing tape - for awkward areas around toes
  10. Pre-blister treatments - eg. Spenco/Compeed
Creature Comforts
  1. "Other" shoes. Sandals, Crocs, baffies, whatever. Something to let your feet (and boots) take a breather when you stop for the night.
  2. Eucalyptus and tea tree oil. Cooling, soothing, disinfecting: a foot-spa in a bottle.
