A gear list to use for an overnight canoe float

Necessities
  1. Cooler (don’t forget ice)
  2. Dry Bag – to keep cell phones, extra clothes, TP, etc. (can buy them at Wal Mart, or any Outdoors Store) they are made of a rubber-type material and seal shut and buckle…
  3. Food – 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner, 1 Breakfast
  4. Snack Foods
  5. Tent
  6. Sleeping Bag
  7. Sleeping Pad or Air Mattress
  8. Bug Spray
  9. Sun Block
  10. Toilet Paper
  11. Towel
  12. Hygiene Stuff (toothbrush, contact solution, woman stuff, deodorant, etc)
  13. Paper Towels or Napkins
  14. Sunglasses
  15. Hat
  16. Water (a gallon jug or two is good, or the type with a spicket on it)
  17. Beer – Cans are best. You can crush them down to a smaller size, and they don’t break and create a hazard on the islands
  18. Trash Bags – Leave no trace, we pack out what we pack in…except for poop
  19. Flashlight/Headlamp
  20. Citronella Candle, if we can have about one of these per boat, we should have plenty when we get to camp
  21. Folding Chair – the kind in a bag are usually great
  22. Pillow
  23. Zip Locks
  24. Duct Tape – to repair shoes, canoe, gaping wounds, etc.
  25. Utensils to eat with
  26. Life Jacket – we have some of these, but may not have enough to go around, if you have one, or have access to one bring it please!
  27. Hand Sanitizer
  28. Baby Wipes
Creature Comforts
  1. Paddles – we are pretty sure we have enough paddles, but if you have extra, or access to some, bring them just in case.
  2. Rubbermaid container – these are good for carrying food in and other things you want to keep dry. Just a box-like container is what we usually take. One per canoe can usually fit the food and clothes items you don’t want to get splashed.
  3. Sandals – Tennis Shoes are fine, but sandals are great (Chacos, Keens, Tevas, Crocs, etc. are a good way to get a weird suntan on your feet that will be like a battle scar).
  4. Fun Items – Water Guns, Frisbees, Fun Noodles, Tubes, Volleyballs, Music Instruments, etc. (BE Creative)
  5. Camera – make sure this is in the dry bag, maybe even double-bagged in a zip-lock
  6. Poncho – you never know if a shower could come up
  7. Knife
  8. Can-opener, if you need that for your food
  9. Small First Aid Kit
  10. Fishing Gear

One day I'll even try fishing myself.... one day, maybe when I'm old. But then again, that won't be too long.
