Greetings,
I'm a writer with Outside Magazine and pulling together a list of the best outdoor-related Web sites, blogs, and apps for an upcoming issue. We're looking for anything that deals with subjects in the Outside world: adventure travel sites, enviro blogs, new mapping programs, next-gen fare trackers, iPhone apps, online gear and culture reviews, etc.
Tips on cutting-edge and insider favs appreciated, as would be any leads on projects still in development. I'm hoping to tap the wisdom of the crowd on this--many thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Damon

Well, I of course think Outdoorzy is a great candidate. A social community of outdooor enthusiasts getting together and sharing trip reports, gear reviews, beta, upcoming outdoor events, and the all important time-wasting aspect that social media sites do so well. The Business Directory is great too. It allows businesses to list themselves for free AND members to find businesses in their area that cater to the outdoor set. I think the "To-Do" list on your profile is really cool too.

But aside from the plug for our precious Outdoorzy, here are a few other outdoor sites I really like.

SummitPost - great resource for peakbaggers... really THE resource for peak baggers.

Gadling - Great general travel site with a wealth of info.

AdventureTripMagazine - Ezine focusing on domestic and international adventure trips. Stories on trips that an average joe could pull off.

The Piton - Great timewaster site. Humorous escape from a boring web surf session.

The Facebook Where I've Been App - This app lets you take a world map and color code it for places you've been and want to go.

Morning Damon,

I read your post concerning outdoor blogs and wanted to do a little shameless self promotion! If you get a chance check out my blog @ http://UpaDowna.com. Read the "About" section under "Pages" for some background and please feel free to search around the site a bit and see if we qualify. Either way I wanted to say your mag rocks and I think it is pretty sweet you are giving back to the general adventuresome folks through this article.

Oh and welcome to Outdoorsy!!

Cheers and Beers,
Yeti
