trusty google gave me this answer. and its from october 2007
Important Recall Notice for Nalgene Filling and Venting Bottle Closures; Sold under Lab Safety Supply Part Numbers 56770 and 56772.
Date October 15, 2007
Details Lab Safety Supply has recently been notified by Nalgene of a recall on their Filling and Venting Bottle Closures. Through a number of customer complaints, Nalgene has discovered that the ultrasonic welds were insufficient and resulted in cracks and leakage at the welding site. Affected closures were manufactured from October 2006 through July 2007 and will be marked with one of the following lot numbers; 591703, 592528, 599382 and 611594 (for 56770); 584999, 578188, 593995, 603944, 606039, 607930, 611937 and 617086 (for 56772).
there could be more about it, but this is all i could find for now.

I'm not too smart, what does it all mean???? Maybe people use Nalgene bottles while playing in the sun and it's a catalyst. Did I spell that right? I haven't used it since high school.

i think that meant it could like break.
although i've heard that like, any kind of plastic bottle can cause cancer. but these days, it sounds like just about anything can. but i dont think that's what the recall, if there is one, is for.

Those aren't the nalgene bottles we use for camping. They are bottles used in labs. THe venting keeps the fluid from seeping out of the spout when not in use.

I think what's being referred to here is the latest word coming down about "Lexan" the material most Nalgene bottles are made of. The Canadian government released a report about it last year and now the US consumer is hearing about it.
Nalgene has voluntarily began using a new material called Triton I think that isn't causing cancer in lab rats....
I'll see if I can find more detail on this situation and post it on the Outdoorzy Blog.
It's definitely a concern, I drink out of these things all the time.

When I was on my NOLS trip last summer, none of the river instructors used the nalgene bottles because of that and the testing on animals.

I know it's not quite what you meant,,, but it's pretty funny to think about animals testiing for water bottles. My dog seem fine drinking out of mine.
