Anyone know anything about this mountain? Highest peak in Mexico. I've seen tons of different elevations for it, but all are right around 18,500 feet. From what I've read its a great introductory peak, pretty straight forward. Just take the glacier to the crater rim, traverse to the summit. I've got some experiance on 14'ers in CO, but nothing higher. Would love to do more, this seems like a great adventure for me to head out on.
Here is some stuff that I have found so far.
Flight to Mexico City from Lexington- $383
Taxi to bus station- $10
Bus to trailhead- $8
Lodging at climbers hostel and Transpo to/from basecamp- Cheap!!
looks like you could do this trip for around $550-$600 bucks if you had all the mountaineering gear. It would cost me that much to fly out to Denver and head off to the mountains! If I want to do this trip I will need to invest in boots, crampons, and an ice ax. Which could add another $500 to the cost of the trip. Howeover these could be rented. I've been reading December and January are good times to go, which works great for me! I just need to find a partner- or go solo. It'd be pretty easy to find a party of climbers at the climbing hostel- and would probably be a possibility to ropeless. Most trip reports I have read said it was a pretty gradual slope.
your thoughts?

I'm in! Haven't heard too much about this peak though....as in I don't know anyone who run up it.
Glad to hear you're wanting to stretch a bit higher up. In the immortal words of Tommy Chong, "You can never get too high,.....man"

hey guys, i attempted this peak in 2004 but was robbed and suffered really nasty AMS and so didn't summit. I would love to go back this winter. maybe even in october or november? if not, December could work just fine, i'll just have to manage the money a little better. if you want to throw in a couple extra peaks there's a 14,600 just out of D.F. and a 17,200 that i've summited but would love to do again. i've got the language down too so that could help.

This sounds pretty interesting to me. I've looked into this mountain as well and got about as far as you have with the research Endercore. Just keep AMS in mind as Joshua mentioned. You can be fit as a fiddle, have perfect weather, and still get AMS.
Also, if you can swing it, you might want to factor in travel insurance.
Keep us all in the loop as you do your research. Watch out though you may have a whole gaggle of outdoorzies heading down there with you if you talk it up.

yep, seriously guys, anybody interested in working out dates just let me know. It will take little or no research as i've been on all these mountains and spent about four months just traveling and experiencing Mexico. i'm certainly game for going back to get to the top!

Only problem is that we are looking at higher flight costs because of the holiday season.
I've been looking and they are about 500 bucks.
a neat website is bookingbuddy.com You put in your dates/airports, and then you can click all the popular travel sites, even less than popular ones, and get results.
