I have to second the opinion that wool is the best bet. I am partial to several pair of Wigwam 30 below socks that I have currently. Very comfy.

absolutely!
most companies make thinner, shorter socks. Wool is also great for biking.

Yeah I prefer a wool blend. Smartwool makes some great ankle high socks. I've always been a huge fan of them. I am currently gear testing some Wigwam wool blend socks. Polyester/Wool combo. They are great too!
I'll have a review up on the blog soon for those. We'll also be giving away some Wigwam hiking socks soon. I had never tried them out, but I'm very impressed.

I picked up a couple of pairs of the Wigwam socks today. I'll let you know how they work out.

How'd you like your socks? I have fallen so in love with the smart-wool type socks. (I like the LL Bean rip offs) that they are all I wear all day every day.

I wore them hiking in Moab, and they were awesome. They were kind of thick and absorbed a lot of shock. With the socks combined with my trail shoes, my feet did not ache after being on them for 9 hours. They are probably too thick for biking, but perfect for hiking/running/walking.
