I am wondering what people would pick as the one (or two) first aid items that they would never go without in the backcountry?

Well, I always try to carry a small kit on any outing but an oft overlooked item I find indispensable and handy for many health and first aid applications is my trusty bandanna.

hhmmm, depends on your line of thought and what you're doing. If i'm guiding i carry a very extensive first aid kit and wouldn't go out with having all of it. If you're with a large group, having an epi-pen and glucose supplement could mean someone's life. If I'm solo I don't carry a 'first-aid' kit at all but i do carry a few 'survival' items such as knife [of course], a magnesium bar, compass & mirror, and things of that sort. Most of all though, honestly, is carrying the knowledge to use whatever you have available. If you want a one or two item list specifically: duct tape and a knife.

I don't carry the knife and tape w/first aid but would agree is essential survival tool. I carry my blister stuff in my first aid kit. This has to be the most commonly used item I have found. If not for me, then for others I'm traveling with.

My first aid kit consists only of a canister of gunpowder. Rambo style.
