We're announcing a contest tomorrow as part of Adventure Travel Week on the Outdoorzy Blog...

If you want to win a Kelty Tahoma daypack and a Lonely Planet Travel Book, just tell us what you'd do if you could spend a week in New Zealand. If we pick your story, you get the prizes... it's that simple.

So tell us in this forum post what you'd do if you had a week in NZ, and you'll be entered to win.

This contest is sponsored by 100% Pure New Zealand

Last week at my company's annual EHS conference, I met Mike, the EHS manager of our New Zealand plant. We started a conversation about outdoor activities, and he began to tell me of all the great outdoor stuff you can do in NZ: Mountain biking, hiking, fishing, canoing and kayaking, skiing, snowboarding, climbing, etc. Right then I decided I have to schedule a safety audit and have my company pay for my "work" trip to New Zealand.
After the audits are complete (only takes two 8 hr days)the rest of the week would be spent on adventure. First, I would mountain bike 42 Traverse in the Tongariro National Park. Next, I'd take a heli ride up to Cantebury and take the Heli Bike challenge, a 1300m trip down Mount Benmore. I would finish up the day taking an easy scenic ride on the Otago Rail Trail.
The next day would be spent snowboarding in the Christchurch - Canterbury Region. I may take a guided tour or spend the day searching the area on my own.
Since I'm a newbie, day 3 and 4 (or 4 and 5 depending on how many days I bike), I would take a guided climbing tour on the Ball Pass Trek, where I will learn how to use cramp ons and an ice-axe. You can take a 3 day tour, but I would opt for 2 days so I can see more sites in my short time in NZ.
Day 5 (or 6), my last day, would be spent hanging out at the Cottage at Windsong Farm. Here I would learn from the hosts how a deer and cattle farm operates. At the end of the day I'll head to a local cafe to feed my belly. Then its time to pack and head home.
Time to schedule next year's audit in NZ!

Your company needs to give you a raise!! Even in a dream-week scenario, he works two of the days!!!

Mad props!

I was all pumped to write about my dream surf week in NZ, but after reading the previous post, seem like I've lost before I've even started!
I'll try and make something up involving a rugby playing marsupial and some Marmite,,, see if I can't give you a run for your money.

I know WKUMtRider did a great job, but don't be discouraged. There are plenty of adventures to be had in NZ... Keep em coming. We'll keep this contest open for about a week and see what kind of sweet ideas we get for a Kiwi Adventure...

Well, I really don't know enough about New Zealand for a good story here.

I would try my hardest for as big as scale reenactment of the battle for Mordor. I think that would take more than a week to organize...but being in the scenery that it was shot in would help.
Mt. Cook for sure...I've wanted to climb that for years....but a good tramping throughout.
But c'mon....what wouldn't I do here:

'I'm with you Mr. Frodo'

And yes...I am a nerd.

I have always wanted to visit New Zealand because it looks so green and lush!! I imagine, after a long hike, I could drink straight from a mountain stream; the whole country just reeks of purity.

Movies like Babe and Lord of the Rings have been my only portal to New Zealand so far, but maybe I can change that

For the record Gonzobeer, I LOVE Lord of the Rings so you are not nerdy!

If I had a week in New Zealand, I've take several hikes, live with a farming host family and herd sheep (I've always wanted to learn how), and visit lots of coastal towns. I'd also like to learn about their traditions and culture so museums and historical plays would be on the agenda. I'm sure Wade would just love that

The last thing I'd like to do is learn about and experience their pub/beer culture We can't miss out on that, for sure!!! Now I know Wade would be down with that
