Anyone ever had shin splints? I guess that might be what I am battling. Constant trobbing around my bone and ankle. Running and playing volleyball just makes it hurt. Spinning isn't too bad.
Any suggestions on what to do other than stay off it because that is not an option...

I had them all the time when I played soccer. Really the best thing to do is stay off of them, but I understand. Stretch and rub your shins. If you feel knots, rub them out as good as you can. Ice them down when you get finished playing sports. Hard surfaces and repetitive force on the legs will make it worse. Also, another thing you can do is tape up your shins when you are being active. Just use athletic tape and tape it like you would do an ankle. It helped for me, so who knows. Oh yea, shoes without arches and heels tend to make it worse too.
Hope this helps.

Oh mel..
I had them in high school twice when I ran track. They SUCK. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the only thing I know of to make them better is to stay off them. The bad thing is, if you don't let them heal properly it will just get worse.
To me shin splints felt like sharp pain, not so much dull. And for me, it was right on the shin bone. They are actually places where the muscle has torn from the bone on your shin. If you have something in your ankle, thats probably a different issue. I'm no expert though. I'd go to the doc.
When I was in track we would ice it down, then tape a strip of foam to them. Then go run on it again. But that was a band-aid to get you through the meet. Then you were out for a while. Sorry. But maybe spinning can keep you in shape for a few weeks until you heal.
Well, as bad of a pun as it is, I hope this sad song from The Shins helps you cope.

road biking is a good answer to any problem!
i've had pain in my shins b efore, tho im not sure it was shin splints. Id have to agree with everyone and try your best to stay off them for a while, maybe sit in a warm bath, and go get it check out if nothing helps. Usually all the pain i've experainced goes away, or becomes tolerable after a short time and I'm back at it. So far i've been lucky, i hope the same for you!

The thing about shin splints is that they can often be mistaken for something worse. My cousin, for example, thought that he had shin splints only to find out that it was a stress fracture that he had been agitating by walking on it for 3 months and by then it was too late to *really* fix it. So try what the others suggest and it doesnt get better or it gets worse, go have it looked at.

I am going to see how it goes for another few days. If it is still bothering me I guess I will suck it up and go to the doctor.
Thanks for the insight. Never dealt with anything like this before.
