All right I'm planing the big one. The Colorado trail, almost 500 miles and I need some advice on long trips. This one will take me just over a month. Any thing I should take or any suggestions. Also if any one has a month long trip I would like to hear about it. Check it out at http://www.coloradotrail.org/

That sounds awesome, never been out for a month yet, but I know three things I would want would be a small lightweight headlamp with a small paperback and a notepad.

... and I think flyingfishman did a long one one on the AT... You may want to ask him. He had a really good trip report with lots of details.

the CT sounds awesome, good luck and have fun.

resupplies should be the thing you need to think through most. obviouslly you don't want to carry a month worth of food.

I worked on a trail crew for a week at high altitude in the San Juans north of Durango on the Colorado Trail a few years ago. We were setting water bars in the trail at 13,000 ft and they had to be carried up from one of those access points. Carrying enough food and water is challenging. There are specific cache spots where the roads cross or meet the trail for meet ups and re-supply. A buddy in a car for support is the way to go. Hiking out for supplies and then returning to the trail would be a lot more difficult. And I think there are two options at the south end. One into Durango, or else a south east jog along another range going further south. Good planning is key.......e
