So I just saw on the news that one of the precincts here in Louisville has decided to ban alcohol sales just in their precincts, citing that if the liquor stores go, then alot of other illegal activities will disappear as well.
I find this to be incredibly unfair to the business owners, most, if not all of whom, are reputable businessmen running their stores.
I even find it alittle borderline unconstitutional. After all, the city, which is wet, issued them licenses to sell their products just as anyone else in the city. Is this just because it's in the West end? the notably higher crime part of town? Getting rid of the liquor stores, I don't think, is going to vanquish the crack dealers. Now they're just gonna move infront of a bakery or a hallmark shop, instead of a liquor store.

I dunno. The mentality of the liquor store bringing the crime element in because obviously booze and crime kinda go hand in hand in some cases, but on that note, eleminate the grocery stores too. Criminals gotta eat, just like they need beer.

I grew up in a town that was dry. Every weekend I rode along with my dad to go to the liquor store.... what? you say... yep, there was a liquor store, WITH A DRIVE THRU and everything, and alcohol was illegal. They fronted themselves as an ICE store, only selling ice. But everyone left there with a twelve pack. I was told later that they paid the cops off. And as long as they kept themselves a relative secret from the church crowds they'd be okay. When I was a senior in high school the town was wet. And although it was illegal for minors to buy alcohol, I bought it. Yep, laws only work when they're enforced, so it will be interesting to see how many "Ice Houses" crop up in that precinct.
