Elizabeth, here on the site, just bought a new female specific backpack. A Gregory Diva i think. She loves it, but you could message her and get the low down. There are soooo many choices these days. But the good thing is that manufacturers are making some great female-specific packs.

i worked guiding backpacking(among other things) trips this summer and a lot of our female guides really loved the osprey women's packs... they'd probably be a bit more than the gregory ones... but I never heard any of the ladies dissing their diva packs. Just be sure to try your pack on at your local shop... and don't forget to give 'em business or they will go under. (Phillip Galls in Lexington, Ky R.I.P.)

like wade said, just about every company has got a woman's specific version out. I guess its a great time to be a lady! good luck in your search.

p.s.
i LOVE the quote in your sig. one of my all time favorites, and was my senior quote in high school.

For what it's worth, I'm a big fan of GoLite's stuff. I love my Jam, and from what I understand the Women's Jam2 is even better for the ladies.

Depends on your needs, but Osprey makes great packs, I am a fan of the Atmos 50 which I tried on at a local outfitter. I ended up buying the Atmos 65 because of the extra room , just incase I over packed it.

Like everyone else recommends, go try some packs on. & yeah it depends on what you want to do with the pack. I have a 1,900 cui ultra light badlands hunting pack for short quick trips & I love it. I also use it for day hikes & training.

For full on backpacking I recently bought an Osprey Aether 85 with a bioform belt and harness (the one that comes with their argon series). This brings the overall weight of the pack up, but the beefier harness and heat molded belt is very nice.

By nature I can be a bit of a gimmick/gadget geek, so I was attracted to the Gregory Baltoro pack because of its fancy swivel belt system & other catchy bells and whistles. At the end of the day the Osprey felt hands down more comfortable & wasn't as bulky feeling. Pretty weird huh, less gimmick & apparent technological development & the Osprey ended up to be way better than the Gregory (for me). As much as I was attracted to the Gregory it would have been stupid for me to buy it because the Aether fit me like a glove. Guess this is why catalog ordering is tuff. I wish the Aether had some more pockets & that the water bottle pouches were more easily accessible. I don't like water bladders, they are bacteria farms & I can't really tell if the chemicals to clean them ever really rinse out, so I opt for just carrying my platys and gatorade bottles. This could be a problem on a solo hike where I don't have an amigo to help me pull the bottle out the pouch..
