It is interesting that obesity has been largely ignored while smoking has been attacked from every angle.

I just blogged about this. Check it out

I think part of the problem is the issue with children. The importance of exercise and nutrition aren't being instilled in them. I watched that Shaq show recently where he takes morbidly obese kids and tries to whip them into shape. It's appalling what kids eat these days... what happened to the days of "eat your broccoli!" I remember those.

I hear ya. Kids can do anything they want today. I know there are a lot of good kids and parents out there, but it seems most do their own thing with little input from the parents.

I notice that Mississippi is number 1 on the list for having the most obese people. Earlier this year I worked for about four months in MS. I had to get a physical for work. The doctor that gave me the physical said he should frame my results(blood pressure, cholesteral level, breathing test, etc). He said my results were the best he has seen in a long time. I consider myself to be in good shape, but I didn't think that I was that healthy. I guess in MS I am. MS needs some help.

I work in healthcare. I also work in rural KY. Needless to say, I see some pretty unhealthy stuff on a pretty regular basis. I call it motivation to get my butt to the Y.M.C.A. as soon as I get off work.

Here's my two cents ...

….just a thought, but what if you have to “swipe” your health insurance card in order to buy smokes and/or that pack of twinkies… hmmm… interesting. Lower premiums for a healthier life styles… ? Makes sense to me… If you can’t afford health insurance, you probably shouldn’t be buying smokes anyway.. I could go on… but you get the idea here.

I watched a show on TLC called "Honey, we're Killing the Kids." A health specialist works with families that live unhealthy lifestyles. The nutritionist basically tells them how to exercise and what to eat. This family had three kids ages 4, 6, and 8. The 8 yr old boy weighed as much as a 16yr old. All they ate was fast food and candy. I guess there are a lot of families like this in the States.
