I'm thinking of taking a basic course in mountaineering?
Any suggestions on what to look for or who to go with?

I've heard good things about the American Alpine Institute. They have courses in Canada.

You can always go for NOLS. But Wade can offer you courses in Mountainering Self Rescue.

Lesson 2

Storms are bad.

I should write an illustrated book. I can see the illustration for this one... some dude in flip flops with no water trying to climb a 14er and lightning striking his arse

Taking notes nwoods? This is top notch schooling, most people have to pay for such a thing.

I saw a course that is put on at Mt. Ranier. I think it was called Ranier Mountaineering and it had some good prices, I am considering it for a un-vacation some day.

Yeah I checked into RMI at Ranier when I was looking into Kili. They seem to have a good program from what I read. A bit pricey though

3-day course is $805 with them (on Ranier)
