This is something I have not had to deal with before, but now I seem to be having real knee issues!?
Any suggestions or experience on this?

No personal experience with knee trouble, as I've always tried my utmost to look after them (ever met an old man who didn't wish he'd been nicer to his knees?).
However, many of my running/hiking/racing buddies have had problems, and here's the distillation of all of their good (and bad) experiences:
1. Seek professional, medical advice. Ideally, get a solid reference from a running/hiking club for a good sports physiotherapist.
2. Follow the advice. Even if that means lots of rest, or lots of uncomfortable treatments.
3. Start being nicer to your knees.

4. And use trekking poles whenever you're carrying weight, if the terrain allows.

I've had a little luck with knee bands. My problem is a bone spur under my knee cap. I had to get x-rays before figuring that out though. I now manage my running distances and try not to exceed 2-3 miles per run. I've found that for me personally, running over that distance just causes me pain later. I also try to ride my bike more or do other exercise. Yoga and Pilates have been great for me. But I'm with Goose on this, I'd see a physician and get an expert opinion.
There probably other good tricks for preventing knee pain too...

Hello Nwoods,
Looks like you've been getting some good advice.
Just my 2 cents worth, It'll depend on what exactly the knee problem is, but I had a lot of success at one stage with a thin unobtrusive knee strap called a 'Chopat'.
I googled this site... http://www.knee.ortho-net.com/cp/cho_pat_knee_strap.htm
Could be worth a look at or mentioning to your doc or medic.
Knees are a worry, you have my sympathy!
Cheers,
George
