Coffee is one of the ten essentials isn't it?

Rain Gear-not fun to be stuck in an unexpected poor down
Light Jacket-never know when it will get a little chilly
PB & J crackers-just because they taste so great

I gotta have these three things:
Smarties - they give me a hell of an energy boost when needed
Camera - I keep track of my tenting sites this way
Maps - not because I get lost but because I love reading and studying them.
These may not be essential for survival, but they make my trip more enjoyable and memorable, and that is essential when out there.
Slow down and enjoy the view

To be honest I don't take anything that I don't use on a daily basis when I go long distance.

- toilet paper
- paracord
- digital camera in a waterproof camera bag (This counts as 1 item, right?)
The waterproof journal is a great idea. That's probably the one thing I most often wish I had at some point during a trip.

You're right on the journal... you never know when an ordinary trip is going to become an "epic" trip. And you'll wish you had something to record it all in...

1]Journal & Pen
2]Knife
3]Lighter/magnesium bar
*Not listed by priority but I feel like with these things I can last through most of what ever comes. It's fair to say though that I'm continually arming myself with survival knowledge and I educate myself thoroughly on the area before I ever get there. Be safe, Happy trails....
