I'm always wondering when I come across a fellow hiker who takes their bag with them..."What's in there that I might not have packed?" or "what if they have a piece gear that I might actually need?" (though this might be an excuse to my more stuff!) But either way...so I narrowed it down to what 3 things do you take? Aside from the necessary (10+) essentials (I count digital camera as one) what do you take that you just HAVE to have on the trial.
What are your thoughts?

Of course, those aren't that inventive... and by the way... why is TP never on the "10 Essentials" list.... uhhhh what are these people using?

extra socks

I would have said duct tape, but I learned a pretty cool trick last year. Just tear off a couple of big sections and wrap some around your trecking poles.

Hmmmm, I like your 10 essentials but these 3 didn't make your list and absolutely always go with me and my friends.
1. 20-50 ft. of paracord (lightweight rope useful for everything from stringing up bear bags to creating emergency slings, etc..)
2. Small, waterproof, pocket journal w/ a stub of a pencil(the uses are endless but I've used it to leave notes for people, record various exposure data for photographs, and take notes on injured patients)
3. Small tube of super glue (I've used it for everything from fixing blown out boots, broken equipment, and even some cuts)
