Hey Folks,

For most of you this may seem like it's happening on another planet: this side of the pond, and north of the border. However, it's almost time for the annual gathering of the world's fittest and fastest, where nearly two hundred adventure racers from twenty different countries will pit themselves against the best (and worst) that the planet can throw at them...

Only this year the planet's got a secret weapon - Scotland!

Elected to hold the Championships after two years of producing world class (and world beating) Wilderness ARC races in the highlands and islands, the best organisation team in the country are promising 500km of racing in one of the most inspirational theatres anywhere on the globe.

The western highlands feature the highest peaks, deepest lochs and remotest locations in the UK, coupled with weather systems that frequently run four seasons to a day. This is real Braveheart country.

The teams are taking things very seriously in the run up to the event, with line-ups changing frequently as captains are forced to switch anyone at less than 100% of their game. As a result, the entry sheet reads like a cocktail of nations, with 20% of teams including US or Canadian entrants, joining forces with Kiwis, Brits, Swedes and Finns.

There's no excuse for not keeping up with the action. I'll be running, riding and rappelling with the teams through much of the course, reporting for www.sleepmonsters.com, where there'll also be live race updates and satellite GPS tracking of all the teams.

It's going to be epic.
